File Name(s)

This data set contains a single comma delimited ASCII data file, 
"gppdi_point_npp.csv". This file contains above-ground, below-ground, and 
total Net Primary Production (NPP) in gCm-2yr-1 for 2363 point measurements 
compiled from literature with associated ancillary information (see below 
for a full description).

A copy of an ORNL Technical Memorandum is also provided with this data
set which contains additional information, "NPP_TM196.pdf".

ASCII File Format
------------------
All of the files in the ISLSCP Initiative II data collection are in the 
ASCII, or text format. The data file "gppdi_point_npp.csv" has a total of 
2364 rows and 22 columns all separated by a single comma. Both numerical and
text fields are included as described below. A value of -999 denotes a
missing numerical value. N/A means that a particular text field was not
available.

File Contents:

MEAS_ID: Unique measurement ID number (n=2363).

SITE_ID: Site ID number (n=2363).

LAT_DD: Latitude of the site in decimal degrees, rounded to two decimal 
        places. Southern latitudes are negative (n=2363).

LONG_DD: Longitude of the site in decimal degrees, rounded to two decimal 
         places. Western longitudes are negative (n=2363).

LAT_OLD: Original latitude of the site in decimal degrees, as reported in the 
         references. Southern latitudes are negative (n=2363).

LONG_OLD: Original longitude of the site in decimal degrees, as reported in
         the  references. Western longitudes are negative (n=2363).

ELEV_GIV: Elevation for the site in meters, as reported in the references 
          (n=1174).

ELEV_DEM: Elevation in meters extracted from the terrainbase 1km resolution 
          global DEM (n=2346).

SITE_OLD: Site identifier as reported in the references (n=1438).

SOURCE: Source of the NPP data: name or code (n=2363).

COUNTRY: Country name where study site is/was located (n=2363).

BIOMENEW: Assigned Biome, species, or vegetation type (n=2363).

SUBBIOME: Sub Biome, e.g., conifer, deciduous (n=1465).

VEG_TYPE: Vegetation type as reported in the references (n=1399).

SPECIES: Dominant vegetation species (n=1425).

TEMP_ANN: Average Annual Temperature in degrees as reported in the references 
          (n=607).

PREC_ANN: Total Annual Precipitation in mm as reported in the references 
          (n=787).

ANPP_C: Aboveground NPP in gC/m2/year (n=1484).

BNPP_C: Belowground NPP in gC/m2/year (n=601).

TNPP_C: Total NPP in gC/m2/year (n=1486).

REFERENC: Reference for the NPP value (n=2358).

YEAR_REF: Year of publication for the reference (n=861).
